FWIW, my living room slide (2001 Dolphin) works just fine no matter if the engine is running or not.
Yep and while many do, others have just enough power for getting them in and out. On the bright side, these seldom shear any pins, break gear teeth or tear up anything else. They also tend to just quit with with over current protection when at the end of it's travel using a no strain, no pain sort of design.
Having said that about the engine running, being plugged in to shore and with the batteries up, shouldn't be a problem and was just trying to cover all the bases.
My 98 National Tropical was much like yours as well and usually worked flawlessly. Only thing about it, was with more than the power required, they would tend to put a lot of strain on the Powergear box and maybe binding it up eventually. We always let go of the switch quick like with that one.
