Ford chassis service vs. Jayco service

This is something I've wondered since we picked up our new C in August. I'm going to ask the dealer but wanted other experiences too.

If the Ford V10 E450 chassis needs warranty work (or non-warranty work), do you go to a Ford dealer or the RV dealer? The motorhome is a Jayco brand, bought from a Jayco RV dealer.
  • If the chassis needs work, it should go to a Ford dealer or other competent mechanic. Unless the RV Dealer has a certified mechanic on staff, I wouldn't let them do anything with the chassis.

  • When I had chassis issue with my Fleetwood (E350 chassis) I would take to Ford Truck Dealer.
  • Chassis problems would be handled by a Ford dealer or (if not covered by warranty) an independent truck mechanic. Along the same lines, tire problems are best handled by a tire shop.

Chances are you won't have many or any warranty problems with the chassis; they're generally among the most reliable bits of a class C. Normal maintenance is, of course, to be expected, things like brake work.
  • Thanks for the info. Called the dealer -- they don't touch the chassis. I agree -- from what I've read (here and elsewhere) and from others experiences...the Ford chassis should be fine w/ regular oil changes/maintenance.
  • Not all Ford dealerships have large enough doors or lifts. It must a Ford Truck Dealership.

It must BE a Ford truck dealership . now that makes better sense :)
  • I go to a Ford truck dealership. Being in a rural area where dealerships are sparse, most of our small city dealerships are truck dealerships. If you are in a major metro area, there may be only one or two truck dealerships, Ford's website (and a phone number in your owner's manual) can help you find them.

RV dealerships often don't do chassis work, and those that do, don't always do so well.

For some chassis issues, like wheel alignment, I go to an independent shop that handles medium-duty trucks. Actually, it is the same shop my local Ford dealer uses for this sort of work, rather than handling it in house.
