Ford Dealers Won't Service E-450

Lift? Wow .... I can't imagine our MH up on a lift! A truck shop with a pit is the answer.

Our local Ford dealer will do some service out in the parking lot. However, I take our MH to a truck center not connected with Ford and they will do any service needed on the chassis part.

You should look for a truck shop not necessarily related to Ford.

Doing an oil change in your driveway is really easy on anything with as much ground clearance as an E450.

I can change oil on my E350 based rig in about 30 minutes taking my time. I just put on my coveralls and slide under on a piece of carboard.

A lot of Ford dealers will not service motorhomes. Adding an aftermarket coach to a chassis is a major modification from the product that came off the Ford assembly line and many dealers just do not want to deal with the added liability of working with such a heavily modified vehicle.

When I bought my Chevy based MH I ran into the same problem. I found a local truck garage that welcomed me and he has had my business ever since. I have seen quite a few Class A and C MHs there.

Try to find out who services local ambulances. Many are on an E-450 chassis and they get much more use/service than the typical RV.

I have gotten great service at independent truck centers.
I found one here that has been on business since the 1970's
and the local truckers use him along with the school system
and county heavy vehicles. He had no problem working on
my E450.

Maybe there is one near you.

E-450 is the Easiest oil change of anything I've seen! Filter and drain plug are super accessible.
Went to parts dept. and bought 5 Motorcraft oil filters for future changes, then Wally World for oil.

(Motorcraft filters have some sort of necessary valve others don't.)
Any Quicky oil change shop with a underground "pit" and sufficient overhead clearance can service your E-450; you provide the filter. Watch for tailswing, inexperienced tech. came within 4" of clipping the door:S

This is very common with Ford, GM and RAM dealers, now that RAM is back in the med truck business. I would say that maybe 1 out of 10 dealers will service any med duty truck and even less will do warranty work on one. You need to call the customer assistance line for truck dealers that will accommodate your vehicle.

They said that their management had made the decision not to service E-450s anymore but that, since I had driven quite a distance, they would make an exception that day and change the oil out in the parking lot. They said I would have to wait as long as 4 hours, but did it in an hour. I then drove to the MH dealer close by, and their service manager confirmed that E-450 service was no longer available anywhere in St. Louis metro area, to their knowledge.

By that, I mean Ford Dealers who can and will service E-450 under warranty. The RV dealer did give me the name of a truck servicing business that will service E-450, but they are not a Ford Dealer so could not do any repairs under the new vehicle warranty. That does give me a place to go for oil changes, I would imagine.
