Ford V10 Actual Trip MPG

Last week we took our 2001 E450 Isata on a quick trip from Colorado to Minnesota and back, 5 days. Actual mpg on the way out:9.3 @75MPH; 9.4mpg @75MPH; 9.7@70MPH. Another 250 miles and 3+ days sitting in a parking lot (Dog Show), cold, rainy, snowy running the generator A LOT to keep the batteries charged to run the furnace(dry camping):6.6mpg.
Return trip, same gas stops: 9.0mpg@70MPH; 7.8mpg in VERY WINDY conditions (not 75MPH); 8.5mpg, still pretty windy. Total miles on our MH right now is 195,512; used 1/2 qt. oil on the way out and more than a 1/2 qt. back home. Fresh filter and oil change before the trip (all Motorcraft). Generator now reads 887 hours. So, as mentioned on other posts, MPG really varies a lot depending on conditions, but you are driving a house.

We have a 2008 E-450 Coachmen (32"). In Florida we got almost 10 mpg on a recent trip but we normally get between 8 and 9 mpg. Wind really affects our mileage. Also, cruise control in hilly area seems to use more fuel as it downshifts more. I have never actually done a mileage check with and without cruise so this is an assumption on my part.

Try using the TowHaul button to stop the downshifts on hills and overpasses.

  • WOW Chinry I sure wish I got your milage or used your Calculator....

9.3 @75MPH there is no way on earth that you got that in a Class C at that speed with an E450 (Square box Motorhome) with V10 running up and down mountains. Living in Colorado for 5 years I never even saw a Class C or a Class A, go up a mountain at 75MPH.

All flat land driving here in Florida at 55-60MPH the average is 6.6 - 7.5MPG on a 32' Class C. Come on out here I want to drive yours and Calculate the milage here.
  • 6.9, 7.27 mpg. First one up a mountain, second one down. Speed was 65-70 mph. Very windy. 3400 miles on odometer. Hope it gets better.
  • Some additional informatiion from our trip: All 3 gas stations were Flying J/Pilot. First station in Wood River,NE $3.27 going, $3.31 returning; next Council Bluff,IA $3.17 going, $3.33 returning; third station in Clear Lake, IA, $3.21 going, $3.32 returning. Quite a big difference in just a few days. Total miles for the trip - 1826. Including fill-ups at home, total gas cost -$725.11.
  • Boy if u got all that going that fast don't ever get rid of that 1 as very unusual mpg as that is a 2 v eng not the 3 used on newer 1's

    what size & weights???
  • I seem to get better mileage in heavier traffic than on the open road. I figure it must be less windage as the air may be moving along with you?
