Our 24' C has the 305/420 version but both make max torque at just 3250 rpm (max HP happens at around 4200). On a steep grade it will kick down to third and run right up to 4500 without complaint and frankly not all that much noise considering most of the motor is right at our feet with the C. We get 10 mpg on the highway running at 60 (not towing), and have averaged a consistent 9.5+ overall for the last 8,000 miles of cruising the western states (with a lot of mountains). :C

Actually there are many more versions of this engine depending on the vehicle it's installed in. The ones in the class A chassis (F53)started in 1999 with a 275 hp version. In 2000 they went to a 310 hp version, and in about 2005 they went to the 362 hp version. The 275 hp and 310 hp versions have 2 valves per cylinder. The 362 hp version has 3 valves per cylinder.

Just to confuse things even more Ford did not make a 2005 model chassis. They ran the 2 valve per cylinder 310 hp engine into early 2005 and kept the 2004 model designation. When they started installing the 3 valve per cylinder engines and the Tow/Haul transmissions thee designated it as the 2006 model.

The 305 hp version is one of the many versions installed in the E style chassis. They started in 1997 with a 265 hp version and have had several different HP ratings throughout the years.
