Looking to purchase around a 36 ft class a motorhome to go full timing and wondering how the ford V10 is holding up. Will be towing a vehicle with it also. Please give good and bad points.

I have a 2001 33 footer, 20,500# Ford chassis with the V-10. 53,000 miles and nary a problem. I wish I could say the same for the tranny.At 27000, the front seal went bad....$38 for the seal kit...$800 labor. I had to replace it at 48,000 with a JASPER re-manufactured. So far, so good.But seeing you asked about the motor, at 30,000 I replaced the anti-freeze, hoses and belt. Looks like next year I'll be doing that again at 60,000. The motor pulls my "toads" (I have 2) without my even knowing they are there...I get 7.3 mpg pulling a toad and 7.8 not pulling a toad.My opinion is that the V-10 is bulletproof.

Yea, mine has been prefect so far with 29K on it. Love it over my old P30 with a 454, runs very smooth. You gotta get used to the higher RPM's it produces but it has plenty of power...

Over 20K miles on current 37' coach with V10 and engine has not skipped a beat. You won't win any races on uphill grades but other than that, it's a great engine.....my second. 7.5 mpg pulling SUV toad.

The engine will outlast the house. It revs high, can be noisy on climbs depending on the type of house, but the V-10 will last forever if you take care of it.

We put over 100,000 miles on our 2001 (310 hp) before trading it in on a 2013 (362hp) earlier this year. We never had an engine problem. We towed either a Buick Le Sabre on a dolly or a Jeep down for about 98,000 of the motorhome miles. The only time we had a problem with power was when the fuel filter got plugged up. When it finally dawned on me what the problem was it took about 10 minutes to resolve it. The old filter was so plugged up it weighed about 5 lbs. Once it was changed out it ran just like it was supposed to.We now have a 2013 (362 hp) it does have more power than the 2001, but the older one was more than adequate. The new one already has been to Alaska and back (11,000 miles towing the Jeep)and it's just getting broken it.
