Forest River Sunseeker 3010DS Workmanship

Purchased a brand new 2015 Sunseeker 3010DS about two months ago. I had read a lot of good things about Forest River here and elsewhere, so I figured this was a good brand. You figure, for a $75,000 Class C MH, it's got to be decent quality, right?

Wrong. I won't go into the laundry list of all the issues I've had, but I can say that the A/C and/or insulation is seriously insufficient for this rig. On 85 degree days, my AC fights to keep it below 80. Took it back to the dealer and they actually told me I might have to add a second unit. Seriously?? On a brand new MH? They say the air coming out is the right temp, which tells me the insulation is the culprit because what other explanation is there?

Adding to that problem is the fact that the thermostat for the AC is in the bedroom. You know, the smallest room in the coach that cools down the quickest. This is thermostat basics 101...you put the thermostat as close to the middle as possible and not near a heat source, not in a room that will cause you to monkey with the vents to get the coach to cool evenly.

Other quality issues such as:

Door to bathroom closes at bottom, has an inch gap at the top. They tell me the door isn't warped, the wall is not straight. Awesome.

In the large cargo area in the back, I took two trips with a 50 pound inflatable kayak sitting on it which has already warped the cheap plastic interior which is back there...there's a big bow in it now. This is supposed to be the place where you put this kind of stuff

There are a host of other minor defects that aren't worth taking the time to write here, but suffice to say I am not pleased. Frankly, my 2006 used Coachmen had a better air conditioning system than this one does. And I seriously wish I had kept it.
  • Have 2008 sun seeker 3100 ant it is perfect , except the cheap drawer under the dinet bench seat.
  • Jeff,
If you cant get satisfactory service out of the dealer, dont hesitate to call customer service at the factory.
  • Not as familiar with the Sunseeker but am very happy with our Forest River Solera. Few problems we have had have been handled by our dealer no questions asked. Have a few problems with the Mercedes but those have also been taken care of. Owned several high end 5th wheels in the past and find Forest River to be of good quality for the price.
    Good Luck

  • donn: Lol I think you have me pegged. It was so "glamorous" compared to my 10 year old coach (which was my first one) than I was lax in checking some of this stuff to begin with. I did take it back to them...they kept it a month...and still didn't complete all the items I listed. It's not like there were dozens...maybe eight, but they seem extremely disorganized

Raymon: Don't have anything to compare to, but I don't know if I'd consider another Forest River after this experience, both with the coach and the dealer
  • In 2006, I purchase a 5th wheel Wildcat made by Forest River. For an inexpensive RV, I felt the quality was very good. Fit and finish above average. Very few problems; nothing major.

This being said, last weekend my wife and I visited an RV dealer that sells many Forest River products. We looked at 5th wheels and TT's. I must say I was extremely disappointed in the level of quality, particularly the fit and finish. Seemed like they are using cheaper materials than back in 2006. Some of these units should never have left the manufacturing plant. Quality control must have been on vacation. We walked away thinking if we purchase another RV it most likely will not be a Forest River product.

Other brands may not be any better, but IMOP, the current FR products do not compare to FR products made in 2006.

  • Does not sound like the dealer did a very thorough PDI to me. Or you were so enamered with the glitz you did not look very closely at fit and finish. Take it back to the selling dealer with your list of complaints and make them do their job. Each division of FR is independent, so cant speak for Sunseaker, but I know the towable divisions go the extra mile for their customers.
