Ok, wait. Water pump gets replaced. THEN they discover that the radiator has 8 holes in it? Who is "they" that pulled the radiator? I claim Bogus on this.
Man, people on here are brutal. Obviously a lot of information is missing since the OP is NOT the person who had the issue and is just relaying what he knows.
Obviously if a shop had just replaced the water pump and holes are found in the radiator in the area that would have been impacted by tools while doing the water pump job, it's pretty obvious what happened.
If the scenario really is that a person went out to their MH, saw coolant pouring out of the bottom and then took it to a mechanic and agreed to the mechanic's diagnosis and recommendation to replace the water pump, oil and oil filter, how the heck can you fault the poor guy who owns the MH? Is everyone supposed to be mechanically inclined or is there some responsibility on the part of the professional who is hired to perform a service? How is the average guy supposed to know if water in the oil is a sign of a more serious problem in his engine?
To the OP: If your friend indeed did not self diagnose and dictate to the original shop to just replace the water pump then there sure as heck is some liability on the original shop depending on what caused the final catastrophic failure. Documentation on the banged up radiator and from the current shop as to what caused the failure will help immensely when seeking resolution. Since the radiator was repaired, they should still be able to get pictures of the damaged fins on the radiator as well.
