They did, the Workhorse UFO Chassis was available with a gas engine in the back.
I don't know when they stopped building it. I'm guessing they were not very popular.

Old John Deere pusher chassis used the Ford 460. I have no idea why John Deere stopped making RV chassis.
The UFO chassis had the GM 8.1L, which was discontinued shortly after the UFO was introduced. Since Workhorse had their existing GM partnership, using the Ford V10 was probably a non-starter, and the GM 6.0 doesn't have enough torque for a large motorhome.
