It's about 30 hours driving time from MA to Mount Rushmore and that's with no traffic or stops. So 6 hours driving per day would be about 5 days to get there and 5 days to get back. That won't leave much time for sightseeing. I wouldn't try to go to California. I would go to Mount Rushmore, The Tetons and Glacier National Park and then head back. That might be more doable.
