Front Seat Bed - PetDek for our (human) Grandson?

We are considering getting a PetDek to use across the driver's and front passenger's seat in our RV for our grandson. The width seems OK at 23", but the length is only 48" (and we could use 60") We are hoping that an air mattress on top will fill in the missing length. The legs telescope long enough that they should make the 17" height of the seats. And then there's always the storage issues of a "B". But at 24" sq that should be doable. Any thoughts appreciated!

  • Thanks for all your ideas! The air mattress idea works with pillows and containers to fill in the gaps. The person who posted this picture said he used his table top to bridge the gap between the two seats.

Those seats are pretty narrow for sleeping unless you fill in the gap between the seats and the dashboard. Our little guy would probably fall out if we just used the seats. Or maybe falling out of bed is part of the fun camping experience. :D
  • I think they are looking at using this for a sleeping area--- not as a seat.

I had that same thought for a second...esp as I live in a State where kids are always rocketing out the windows in a wreck, or falling out the backs of pickup trucks.

  • I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but you should consider seat belts for the new spot if your grandson will be riding on the platform. And you should also check the air bag crash protection locations for passengers in your RV, you don't want an air bag to deploy where it would touch him in case of accident if he happens to be riding up front.
  • On our chev based B, a home depot plastic storage bin is the same height and fits between our seats....the dog often sits up there on her bed.

I imagine you could find similar and then a pad over top to make for a smooth surface.

it's gotta cost less and the storage bin will be useful for the kid during daylight hours.

    not him, his stuff.

  • You could probably build a support to fit - build it with folding legs, maybe out of plywood. Then you could get the extra width
  • There are different sizes of inflatable car beds that are longer.

Mostly they're for bench-type back seats, so if you have captain/co-pilot chairs, you'd need something in between them for support. Would your pet-deck work for that?
