Fuel gauge quit working

Hi guys and gals
I have a '98 30 ft Safari Sahara diesel pusher and the other day when I turned the key on , my fuel gauge went way over past the full mark and stayed there .
Where do I start ? Is it the gauge , the wiring , the sending unit or the float ??
It's a Cat diesel and a Magnum chassis ,,,, getting old I guess , but I try to keep it all working .
Thanks for any replies .
  • sending unit, fuse, ground wire...not necessarily in that order. start with simple things first.

depends on the ohm rate and wire style its either the + wire broke or the - wire broke or bad connecter,s .I vote bad - connection as first
    most likely problem
  • when the fuel gauge reads past full it means you have a open in circuit can be sending unit or brake in the wire you will have to find wire at sending unit take 12 volt test light ground end of test light to frame probe other end to sending unit wire should now read half a tank if it is sending unit bad if not brake in wire someware or bad gauge but gauge unlikly
