gas pusher

We have spent the last three years full timing a Jayco 27. Today found a low mileage 08 Winnebago Destination 36G. I'm very unsure about gas pushers. I've searched out articles on here and PMd a few folks that had them. I'm very interested to hear thoughts, concerns, praises and especially personal history on these rigs.
Thanks

  • While I cannot respond directly as to the coach you are looking at, I have traveled in a gas pusher for the last 14 years and put about 60,000 miles on it. Mine is older (and I am converting it to diesel) but it worked well as a gas coach. Any given engine will move the coach just the same whether it is in the front or in the back. Horsepower, torque etc. don't change just because the engine has been moved!

I will only have a pusher coach after having mine all this time. The lack of an engine hump, easier engine access, quieter, front axel back further, all make for a pleasant ride in my opinion. Mine was built as a gas pusher as it is only 29' long and at the time it was built there were no small, light weight diesels with enough HP to push the coach.

Today both gas and diesel engines are much improved so I decided to upgrade to a newer engine and decided on a diesel but it would have been simpler to have gone to a modern gas engine. I belive the coach you are looking at is on the UFO chassis which was a very well tested chassis. If I was going to buy a newer coach, that is the chassis I would be looking at.
