Gas/Elec Heat

I have a winnebago outlook 2007 29B and on the thermostat it says gas/elec heat. Does it still use the propane when it is switched to elec? Thank you

I don't think you have the setup like pianotuna talks about since you have a Winnie. I think Golden HVAC gave you the correct answer. We had a 2003 Winnie with heat pump and I never cared for it for winter heating, it just made a lot of noise and not much heat. We usually stay at RV parks and use a small electric heater to supplement our propane furnace. Dick

my sediments exactly on the value of heat pumps. and heat strips are even less of an asset vs. a $17 ceramic heat cube.

  • Hi,

If it there is a setting that says electric and another that says furnace, then on the electric setting it will use no propane.

  • Hi,

Chances are that the heat pump (rooftop air conditioner) will come on if it is above 40F outside, and try to warm the RV. Once below 40F outside, or if you set the thermostat more than 5F higher than the room temperature, then the gas furnace normally will take over.

Of course anytime there is no 120 volt power to the RV, it will change over to gas furnace.

Personally, I normally use a 120 volt electric heater when I am in a RV park. But most nights, I spend out dry camping, and use my Olympic Catalytic heater, that does not need any 12 volt power. However it does require a roof vent and window be open.
