generator exhaust tube

On our homemade genny stack, the EMT conduit does get very hot since it is attached to the muffler pipe. But, as others have mentioned, the PVC stack never gets beyond warm to the touch. The "numerous pics" you seen must not have been made properly bring in cooler fresh air at the base. A blanket statement saying homemade ones get very hot is not correct.

I agree. I built mine the same way they did. I checked using a flame and it is drawing cooler air up into the pipe. I have seen shrouds on the plastic pipe

before though.

If they are going to charge $150+ for some plastic tubing and a few bent pieces of conduit you would think they would have a decent

way to secure it. I have 40 bucks in mine, ran it for 3 hours and the outside temp of the pipe never went above 130 degrees. The black

pipe laying in the rack behind the barn is darn near that with this blazing sun. I used white. I like it, I will use the saved 100 bucks for a steak dinner

when i leave vegas after the race and maybe hit a quarter machine At the border.....:0 :)

THe metal shrouds are at the lower portion that actually contact the exhaust pipe obviously that transition piping is hot. However as the pipe rises it is cool to the touch.

I used my gen only for many sporting events trips. No, gen fumes are not enough to set off the detector but there is a slight smell. You don't realize just how much until you get the genturi and realize it eliminates any smell. When its windy the exhaust goes right under your MH and seeps in that way too.

My gen exhausts along side a large window which is where the couch is. Which is where I end up sleeping 99% of the time.

For months I thought my headaches in the morning where just from all the activity from the prevous day. Once I started using the Genturi the headaches went away. I believe because it eliminated the slight amount of fumes from coming in.

I just wish ALL sporting events and ALL CG's without power would REQUIRE exhaust stacks. Just spend 5 days at an event with hundreds of MH gens running, whew, everything smells like exhaust!

BTW: just beware that homemade ones get VERY hot and can melt the side of your coach and/or burn anyone passing between RV's. I've seen numerous pics posted of melted RV sideways from a DIY exhaust pipe.

Genturi specially made pipes are NOT hot to the touch. You can run that gen all week long and when you are ready to leave you can wrap your hand around those pipes to take them down.

I've been using a Gen-Turi for a number of years and it works well. I had to saw off part of the existing generator exhaust when attaching the horizontal piece of pipe to keep the protusion length about the same. We also have the generator exhaust next to a slideout and do not attach the Gen-turi if doing a generator run of a half hour or less.

I cannot do a permanent mount of places to hook the Gen-turi since one point is on the side of the slideout when it is open. I tried the glass lifting type suction cups but they only stay on for a few hours. I have ended up leaning the unit against the side view mirror and that is good enough.

No motorhome is airtight. There is always some air leakage.

I made my own. It's not difficult. I used a conduit elbow, I think 1 1/4" but whatever fits your exhaust, a conduit coupler, 3 sheet metal straps to attach the conduit to the 3"PVC thinwall pipe. You can make it as long as you want and cut the pipe into as many pieces as fit where you want to store it. Join the pieces with PVC couplings. Mine is in 3 pieces. I put 2 screw eyes into the wall to hold it up but many use suction cups. Probably cost about $20.

All RV manuf. seem to all put VERY short exhaust pipe on gens. All the exhaust runs right up the side of the RV and seeps in. If yours is right by the slide expect a TON of exhaust smell to come inside your RV. I bought one because the CG I was staying at for a sporting event in Montana 'required' them. I wish ALL CG's where a gen is used made them mandatory!

I bought the gen-turi and it is by far the best for eliminating all the exhaust fumes and smell into your RV. Only one that also has an air intake opening to prevent back pressure.

Yes they come apart and store easily. Comes with a storage bag.

That's a pretty generalized statement, if your slide seals are in good shape & working as they should, you shouldn't have fumes entering your RV.
My exhaust is 2 ft. from my dinette slide, & I have never smelled any fumes, plus the detectors have never gone off.

Another home made one here :) I used thin wall PVC to make it as light as possible. If you can find some way to bungee or tie it in place around 2/3 of way up it should stay in a wind. I turned the bell end of a 3" PVC pipe up from the elbow and slip fit another short section to get length over top of MH. Each section is short enough to store easily in MH. I also used a slip coupler on the elbow so the first section of PVC is not attached to the EMT elbow. That makes storage easier.
