Generator hours

After almost ten years of usage I have 2230 hours on my generator, this includes running 7 straight days after a hurricane until power was restored. I change oil and filters every 150 hours as well the air and fuel filters when required. Question does anyone else have this many hours or more in a 10 year period or do I have a record here.
  • Guess I'll have to bite the bullet. I don't have a shop anymore so I need to use someone else and they all specify at least six- seven hours( 125.00/hr) to do it. the valve job is nothing .. I agree and very easy just a few minutes but access and pulling out the slide is not on mine !! I have no access without removing the front fiberglass front ,Disconnecting slide hydraulics ,electrical and fuel lines it needs a fork lift to remove it (12.5 KW )removing the covers and then we repeating the job to replace it with a forklift at least according to the service guys I talked to ( 3 shops including onan ) is more than I can do in an RV park. Not so easy .
One guy I campfire talked to had 1800 hours and at 1000 he had pulled it checked and needed no adjustment so he was re thinking having it done at 2000 since he like myself was now full time and no access to a shop. Others in the group conversation weren't even close to the hours ( in the hundreds ) but didn't even know it needed valves adjusted. Oh well
  • I've got 1700 on my Onan 7500. Never had the valves adjusted. It shut down once on a 3 day 24 hr continuous run time. I changed the fuel filter and it hasn't had a problem since. Regular maintenance is a must.
  • Reading all the replies I wondered how I missed the valve adjustment. Went to the RV and got out my Onan generator manual (8000 KW) there is NO mention of any valve adjustment what so ever . So I didn't miss it . Apparently the 8000 doesn't require it. I knew about the belt replacement at 1000 hours ,haven't had it done yet,but I do the oil, filters and antifreeze as required.
  • The valve adjustment, I believe it's part of the listed 1000 hour schedule onan tune up service that" must be performed by authorized service centers " perhaps not , I'll have to ask around.

Actually what I thought the thread was about.
  • 2,647 hours on my 7.5k Generac & it runs great. Do the maintenance and repairs myself.
  • I have heard of 15000 hour 7.5 Onan diesels.
Quote RV forums Cummins/Onan tech @ Rocky Mountain Cummins told me that with correct maintenance and service there is no reason why it should not give 10,000 hours service.
