Got yelled at!

Last night, I was sitting outside reading quite late - like 1AM. Just couldn't sleep. I had no music, no TV, and a bottle of water. Just nice quiet time with the sounds of late-night nature. The reason I sat outside is that my leg is a bouncer, and it drives my partner crazy.

So, the guy next to us on the DRIVER SIDE SITE comes over and raises holly hell that I am sitting outside this late, and that it is quiet time! He was loud. So, I stood up, took off my glasses and asked him why I was bothering him? He said it was quiet time and everyone is supposed to be in their RV. I told him to go away and call the host if he has a problem with it, and to leave me alone.

This morning, his wife came over to apologize. But, they still moved to another site. I am OK with that. The camp host came by to ask what happened, and I explained. He just rolled his eyes, and said he was sorry to bother me.

So, reading quietly is not allowed, according to this guy? I sit outside late often to read. While it is not normally that late, I am a bit of a night-owl. Thoughts?

  • Playing the Devil's advocate (or as some people believe I am the Devil), are you sure there wasn't something else to the story? Were the sites extremely close? Did you have a bright light? Were you moving about, in and out of the RV closing the door, popping tops on colas or beers, clinking in your chair while bouncing your legs? Something must have disturbed the guy, because he did come out and find you outside. When it is dead quiet, the most minor of sounds can be an annoyance. I have a few friends that could rightfully say they were just sitting outside resting in their lounge chairs not doing a thing, yet they would be waking up the entire park because they snore like a 747 at takeoff. They will also swear they weren't making a sound when you bash them upside the head to get them to stop. Not saying the guy wasn't crazy, or that he was in the right, but if he had all his windows open, and you were pretty close in a setting where it was very quiet, it wouldn't take much to make your presence known. It is really a matter of setting and situation.
  • He could have dementia. My husband was prone to such outbursts in the early years of his disease.
  • I did let it go. I just wanted to share my story. It was such a ludicrous moment in my life, I had to share!

  • You must of been reading out loud orrr you where parked next to a nut tree. There are a few that have bigger problems in there life then the rest of us.
  • Were you reading by the light of 1000 megawatt stadium floodlights? If not, just let it go. More than enough whackadoodles walk among us, your neighbor being one.
  • Sounds as if his wife was embarrassed by hubby's actions. I would just forget about the whole thing. Not worth getting upset over it.
