gremlins, electrical and such

This weekend I seemed to be plagued with several small problems. Perhaps y'all can give me some insight. First, my leveling jacks don't seem to want to come down. They make a weird sound, like they're not getting enough power, then they start to work correctly. When I went to leave the campground, they didn't want to retract unless I was plugged in to shore power. When I got home, the front jacks came down but the rear didn't budge.

Secondly, my generator didn't start, and kept tripping a breaker when I tried to start it manually. It'd an Onan 7000 marquis.

any helpful suggestions before I bring it to the shop?

  • If you have slides, try them. If you have the same issues, then it is almost certainly a battery issue either with a bad cell or bad cables/ground connection.
Also try using your BOOST switch while trying the operating the jacks. If things get better, than it is definitely a battery issue.

Sounds to me like battery issues as well.. I know my Power gear jacks like engine running for extra OOMPH but alas even that is .. Well that's a different issue.

I would clean all battery connections both house and chassis.
  • start with your batteries, clean, full of water, charged, clean ground wire to frame while your at it.
  • Make and model of jacks would help.
Both genset not wanting to start and the jacks not working could be an indication of low battery due to loose connection or corroded connection.
