Grey Tank Valve Open or Close

I leave my gray tank valve open, unless I'm going to dump my black tank, then I close it for a few days to build up my gray water supply to help push the black tank material out of my sewer hose. I've been doing this with success since 1976.

Creating a 'trap' in sewer hose is a good idea......but has nothing to do with pressure in grey tank. Waste tanks are vented, otherwise you could not drain anything into them or drain anything out of them.

The 'trap' in the sewer hose helps keep sewer flies from setting up house in your grey waste tank if you leave grey dump valve open.

They really need to sticky that post. It might cut down on some of the constant questions regarding waste tank operation.

We leave it open until the black tank is half full, that way I have a half full gray tank to flush the hose after dumping the black. Have done it that way for years.

We leave ours open until 24 hours before dumping the black tank. Which for us is about every fifth day.

Leave it open. I've been full timing for nearly three years and always have left my grey tank open with no problem. For me it was more like I had to empty it every two days. Not going to happen.
