Had our catalytic converter stolen

So this past Sunday our storage lot called and told me I was the lucky winner to have our Catalytic converter cut out by some wonderful individual that felt he needed it more then I did. I've looked at part prices online, but so far after 5 calls I've not been able to get an actual quote from any shop. Before I call into insurance, can anyone share an actual price they've paid to replace one in F-53 chassis?

  • Why are they stolen? For black market resale? Is the value of the platinum/palladium coated ceramic beads in them really worth that much? Stunning how many bottom feeders inhabit the human race....
  • We had 8 stolen 2 months ago and those were NEW units. So, we went back with OEM Ford Converters to prevent emission warranty problems. Each one was about $1400 plus about $200 labor as we had to have it done at the dealership. Aftermarket will probably be a lot cheaper. Doug
  • The Banks Powerpack for your RV does not include a catalytic converter. I'm not suggesting you purchase the Banks package, but its obvious to me that, if it's legal in all 50 states according to their ad, you don't necessarily need to replace your converter.
  • Thanks ernie1, thankfully WA State dropped those checks and where I'm at we never had them. I'm not sure I have the skill set to replace my own or not, does look like it might just be bolt on though.
  • Beware of any of the companies that sell replacements online especially if they're across the country and wants to sell you new replacements cheap. They will fit but if you have to have a smog check the printed numbers on the converter might show up as not an approved unit for the state in which you live.
