Help please

Some times you can whack the caliper with a hammer a few times and un stick it temporarily. It will most likely stick again but it might get you to the shop without doing more damage.If it's not under warranty you can get it done at just about any truck garage.

No, he said he could feel heat while he was driving it. Similar to heat being on near floorboard, but he had on AC.



I 100% agree with this. You don't have a brake problem...Period! At least not from the symptom you have described. The entire engine is between the driver and the right front wheel....no way could he EVER feel heat from the brake. I, like others, thought you meant he got out and put his foot on the wheel....that would be the only way he could ever feel the heat from it on his foot.

I personally think, he is just feeling the heat from the exhaust manifold/header pipe and more than likely, not a problem at all.

Hardly using it may well be what caused the problem. When we used to part time, we tried to always drive the coach at least 20 miles or so every month. Plus run the generator under a load each month for an hour or so. Letting a motorhome sit idle for months at a time is hard on it.

Thanks for all responses. First step is to find mechanic to come here. He has a reliable mechanic that owned a RV, so he is calling him tomorrow to see if he can look at it. No, of course we don't want to risk our lives and our motor home. I foolishly thought since it was inspected in September and we have hardly used it except for a few home games, how could it be something major. Easy diagnosis:

Look on Craigslist for a local mobile mechanic. Pay him a few bucks to come and diagnose the problem. He will be able to give you an estimate on cost to repair and you'll probably be ready to go in a few hours. I use mobile guys all the time, and most are pretty good.

Easy diagnosis:

Jack up the front wheels.

If they rotate pretty freely, drive it a mile or so and check again.

If no issues, drive further until you locate the source of the concern.

Could be normal engine heat or could be a safety issue. But figure it out!

A mobile tech should be able to easily do this in one hour of diagnostic time. A very wise investment.

That heat is likely from the exhaust manifold. There is too much air between your foot and the brake pads/rotor. The brakes will smell when they get hot. The volume of heat from a brake does not compare to 4 or 5 cylinders exhausting through the manifold.

you have damage that needs to be repaired

brake rotor, or wheel bearings

driving it 15 miles, just might start a fire

a 30 mile round trip is certain to create more damage and INCREASE repair costs

do you really want to risk loss of the 'WHOLE' RV and your lives ??!!

Warranty on brakes on a 15 year old motorhome that you have had for most of a year-- RIGHT.

You don't need someone to give you their permission to risk your life (at worse) or do substantially more damage (at the least). Get it fixed and then enjoy your motorhome.
