HELP!! RVs are high (in height)!!

Okay everybody,

After months of searching for a Class A my wife and I would like, and after narrowing it down, I finally did something I should have done from the start!

We have a house with an RV garage, and we have always planned on getting one sooner or later (that's not why we bought the house...it was a side benefit. I have kept track of the length and width in my searches, but wrongly assumed I was fine on height! I have a low portion of the ceiling that is at 11' 7".

Most coaches seem to be at 12' 6" because of the A/C. We were really serious about a 06 Winnebago Journey DP, which is listed at 11' 6", which includes the ladder, so the roof is probably 8" or so lower. It has basement air, so good to go. HOwever, one we are really serious about has a satellite dome on it.

Here is what I need help with:

1) Are there any other RVs that fall below 11' 6" in height?
2) How much height is lost when you dump the air in a DP?
3) Can somebody with an 06 Journey tell me how high the ladder sticks up?
4) Can somebody with a Journey tell me how high the Sat dome is?

It will kill me to have pay for monthly storage for our coach and leave it outside...but on the other hand I don't want to buy something we would not be happy with.

Thanks for all your advice,

jeff

Don't laugh....I was wondering how much it would cost to lower the floor...bust it up and repour...

How about just cutting a couple of channels for the tires. Should be cheaper than doing the entire floor.
  • What about a TT. I know you want a MH but now days the TTs have most of the features a MH has. Auto Levelers, slideouts, auto awnings, generator...etc.
Once you've towed a TT for a few trips it becomes second nature just like with MHs. I'm sure you can find TTs that will easily fit.

  • Look at an older Foretravel. They are 11 6 if you do not put a dome sat on it and you can lower your air bags and back in.

I saww the caveat in the brochure that actual height may vary, but I guess I need someplace to expand my search for something that might fit. I need to make a jig to bring and measure with when I look at units....

  • Some MH's can be driven (for short distances) once the air bags are emptied. How much it will actually lower the MH will have to be measure to be sure.
  • Its going to be hard to find a DP under those heights, even the one you want is only making it by a inch, yes you can let the air out of the bags to lower but not sure you can still drive them, can you make repairs to your garage to increase the height.
