Speculation (and maybe a few facts): We now have (are producing and refining) more oil than we can shake a stick at. Which....if we kept all of it here, gas might cost about a buck/gallon. However...oil companies do what any company does...they find out who will pay more for the product and send it there. So...right now, in New Jersey, my local pumps say $3.43-$3.49/gallon for regular (89 octane). Will that Keystone Pipeline give US (American consumer)more (=cheaper) gasoline...or, will it enable the oil companies to simply fill more tankers to take the oil elsewhere?
When I bought my motorhome (2001) gas cost $1.30/gallon. Some months later it jumped to $1.60/gallon. I jumped too. Now....I've just given up, pay the price. Of course, my option is to give up motorhoming...but wife and I just don't want to. Yet. Local trips (within 2-3 hours from the house) seem to be perfecly acceptable, however, if gas goes up enough, our snowbird runs to AZ will all be in the past.
