Holiday Rambler

I am new to Class A Motorhomes and was wondering the quality of a Holiday Rambler. If a Prevost or Newell is a 10 and Newman or Country Corch is a 8 where would the Holiday Rambler fall?
  • We just purchased a used 2005 HR Endeavor with 400 isl. We LOVE it! The layout has lots of room and is so much better than the newer ones. Quality it great! Our motorhome had 15k when we bought it in June and we now have 18k. We have found minor issues each time we go out but they were all DIY items. Ours was well maintained by the previous (original) owner. If you buy used, that is important.

We have talked with the HR engineers and they are very helpful. We needed to know if there was a brake for towing (previous owner did not know). The engineers were very willing to help and they knew everything about our RV as it came off the factory floor. Loved their service and they were very helpful!

HR & Monaco (IMHO) are very equal in quality and finishes as long as the models are similar. 2005 was a peak year for many of these coaches. No sure what the quality was after 2009 with the shake-out of the rv industry.

    Good luck with your shopping.

BTW...based on another post on this forum, HR will be introducing the Endeavor again. The dealers will have a preview Dec 1.

Are we talking older/used HR or brand new? How would anyone know yet what the status of a new HR is? The company is a bit of a hot potato.
  • HR built a decent unit on the roadmaster chassis which is what your ambassador is....your factory support is alive and well and so is their service center along with plenty of places (aka Allicance Coach) which are all ex Monaco people...if this is new, it backed by ASV which purchased the Monaco RV LLC from Navistar...depending if used/new etc, you have no worries...if new, the tires/batteries have got 2 years of lot rot so use that as a negotiating tool..Batteries might need replacement if allowed to go stone dead on a dealers'lot.
  • We just jumped ship from a Class A to a HR 5'ver. I'm pretty pleased with this 10 year old HR. I would grade it as the top of the middle range for RV's. I would have no problem recommending a used HR if the price was appropriate for the year.
  • I would put HR up there with Newmar and at the same or a smidgen below County Couch. The specific model needs to be taken into consideration. I feel you get a lot of bang for your buck with the higher end HR diesels.

Every brand had their issues, just need to be informed. I love Country Coaches but dislike the problems with the dry PTO and aluminum radiators.

The HR (and sister ships) s-chassis is a solid foundation with good quality. That being said the remainder of most of the house components are similar regardless of what brand you buy, heating system, ac, etc, as long as you are comparing similar models within the food chain lineup.
  • I havn't bought anything yet. I am just investigating all brands to narrow my search down to 2 or 3 manufacturers. I looked at a 2013 40 ft.Ambassador
  • Holiday Rambler have made both Diesel and Gas Coaches. The Diesels were always pricier and finished better than the Gas.

That said like all Brands they offered several Models on a couple of different Chassis , which One Do you have?

Without that information it is impossible to advise You further!
  • Depending on the model and the year, I'd put it no less than an eight. The fit, finish and quality of the Monaco line puts their top three in the luxury category. Pare it down a bit by providing a year and model and you'll get better answers.....Dennis

In my opinion, a Holiday Rambler would be a strong 7 compared to a Newmar or Country Coach (now out of business for many years). Newmar, depending on which level could be a 6 to a 10. Country Coach has a good following with a good after factory support system.

It would also depend on which Holiday Rambler you are talking about as they had a Holiday Rambler Navigator that was equal to a Monaco Signature or top of the line Beaver.
