Hope this wasn't YOUR slide-out!

My rear slide has locks, but my front slide doesn't. Seems odd...

18 Wheelers and commercial drivers have to do a safety walk around check before driving off, sometimes I've seen it done at rest stops. Its a good Idea for RVers also. The last thing I do after making sure all inside things are done is to turn on flashers and parking lights and do a safety walk around. check lights ant., windows, tires, and a good look under unit. I like to thump the tires listen to hear if all sound the same. checking air all the time lets some out.

I always do a 360 even if I just stop for 10 minutes to walk the dogs, I can not bend down to look underneath but I think that getting a mirror attached to a long stick may be a good idea

We always locked our slide.

Years ago I had that same slide (Powergear) that slid out..but only about 2 inches. Noticable in the mirror....called my dealer and he said something like bring it up...but 2 inches or so will be the max it will slide out on its' own. He seemed to be right. Something in the motor. Fixed. Never happened again.

bingo, I do a walkaround everytime we stop for fuel, food or even a pee break. Only once have I ever found something wrong, but that just validated it was a good thing to do.

I was driving down a residential street and saw a Class A motorhome coming toward me with his TV antenna up. I pulled a little into his lane and stopped and motioned out the window of my car for him to stop. I stopped just beyond a low hanging tree that I knew his antenna would not clear. He drove around me and gave me a dirty look and then in 15 feet ripped his antenna off on the tree. Oh well, some people just don't want the help.

Seems like if the driver had known, he would have secured it somehow. That cannot be good for the slide.

Turn the other direction fast and slide it back in.

Several times on trips when I saw something amiss with another vehicle, I used the Morse Code SOS signal on the horn (three short, three long, three short). They always pulled over and I pulled in behind to advise what the problem was.

I guess most folks realise you're not just honking at them if you use a specific sequence.

I had a rear slide on the curb side go out as I was approaching a toll booth, never heard a sound. If I hadn't checked my mirrors, I would have bee in a world of hurt.

I never travel without my manual locks in place....one at the front of the slide and one at the rear. My fear is, though, that I'll forget that they are there and try to extend the slide without removing them. To combat that, I tie a long string from the slide lock to the slide button so I'll see it and be reminded to remove the locks BEFORE hitting the button!
