How do I figure out my height?

I have a 2003 national tropical with a Spartan chassis (moat seem to have a freightliner but mine is definitely a Spartan)

How do I figure out my height. I gotta drive through Manhattan today.

Thanks!!!
  • And all of you think Algebra was a waste of time?? Measure from the top edge out to a point,, and then from that point back to the bottom edge. Use Pythagorean theorem, add enough for ACs, and you have it! Easy!!
  • I would think the 2004 on a FL would be close. I would imagine the chassis specs would be real close or the same (ride height etc) unless National built 2 different body platforms for each chassis which I doubt.

  • Needing to know your RV height is a good thing but do not trust the sign posted on that old bridge. There is a very good chance that the sign listing clearance at 14'0" has not been replaced for years but the road has probably been resurfaced 4 or 5 times since the sign was hung.

  • In many states, 13' 6" is the maximum allowable height of any vehicle.
It is a pretty safe bet that your coach is 13' 6" or less.
  • If you have help and are okay getting on the roof. Hold a 2x4 or something similar level on top of the A/C or the highest point on the roof, extending over the side of the RV.
Have a helper measure from the 2x4 to the ground.
  • Put a 2X4 or other long, handy straight edge across the roof A/C (or whatever the highest point is on the coach), extending over the side of the coach. Make sure your suspension is aired up= proper ride height.

Option two is to pull under a canopy. Measure from highest point on coach (again, probably the roof A/C to a beam or other convenient place on the structure. Move coach out of the way and measure from ground to beam. Subtract beam to coach dimension.

The most common methods are either to measure from the top to the ground as favored in most European countries, or the ground to the top which is the US standard. Either method will work.

  • Just use a tape measure from the highest point on the roof to the ground and add about 6" for safety. Don't fall off of the roof.
