How does a Honda Fit Sport do as a TOAD ??

Hi All

We are finally looking into getting a toad for our Class A & would really appreciate any & all input as how this type of vehicle is when being towed down the road, to hook up etc.
The wife has a 2006 Prius now & she has agreed to go for the 2013 Fit if it will work out for us.
Thanks for your comments & suggestions !!
  • Bill,

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you on installed price. You can go to tow bar company websites for parts information.

    Here is Roadmaster's 2013 Fit bracket: http://www.roadmaster-tow-bars.com/vaf/product/list/?gclid=CLzgt_KM7b0CFeRlOgodIWoA-g&category=%3F&year=44&make=945&model=3889&style=5168

Installation instructions and shop times are here: http://www.roadmaster-tow-bars.com/roadmaster-ez2-tow-bar-mounting-bracket-521190-1

Click on "View or download installation instructions for #521190-1 " to see what is involved.

Best answer is to call some dealers in your area who have done this on the same model vehicle so you are not paying for "learn" time.

  • I tow a 2012 Honda Fit Sport using a Ready Brut Elite tow bar and a Blue Ox base plate

Base plate installed cost $1300.00 with tail light wiring.
Ready Brut Elite which includes their breaking system cost $1275.00 and I installed it myself.
Go to readybrake.com to check it out.
Installation of the tow bar is so easy my wife can do it by herself.

We have towed the Fit 11,000 miles and have only driven it for 8500 miles. It is a very good towed.
  • We have an '09 Sport which tows just fine. The car's ride is a bit rough, but that's the only negative. We have a 2-minute prep we go through with the transmission, and we're off. We had trouble with the OEM GPS draining the battery if we had a long driving day, so we installed a battery cutoff from Walmart ($8 or so). When we switched out that GPS for a Kenwood, which has a power-off button, we just turn it off and we removed the battery cutoff.
  • We are curious as to how you folks who have a Honda Fit like this car as a second car ?
How is the MPG, dependability, the ride & general comfort of this car ?
My wife has a Prius now, which would have to go if we get the Fit, which gets about 50 MPG but only may be towed on a car dolly & I am not to eager to get involved with a dolly.
I would appreciate your thoughts & comments.
    Thanks.
