Hmm, what do you mean by unplug your battery? Disconnect the battery cables?
Whether you are on shore power or not the reefer should be on (when it is turned on). The reefer is connected (now) directly to the house battery, so if the reefer goes off when you unplug the shore power, it probably means that your battery is too low to run the controller.
What is your battery voltage reading when not connected to shore power?
