I can't speak for your tank, but when I bought mine years ago, the LP tank looked nasty. I took it to get some LP so I could test the system... they refused. So, I ended up paying to have the LP system checked... A few fitting needed some tape... but the tank, as ugly as it was... is perfectly fine.
Not sure if you're think bottles would be more convenient, but still using my original tank with one additional fitting so I can attache my grill right to it and not have to carry ANY bottles... I went the other way. lol
