How often to change the oil?

I know most vehicles (RV included) require oil changes every 4000-6000 miles.

How long do you let the RV sit in storage before changing the oil (assuming you are short on the mileage)?

I plan on using the RV at least once a month during spring and fall and twice a month during the summer. It will probably sit in storage all winter (2-3 months).
  • Once a year is enough, and 10,000+ miles on full synthetic is no problem for the V10. I've gone as far as 15,000.

But if I had to run a lower grade oil, or doing lots of in-town driving, then I did it at 5,000 miles.

I generally use the Napa Gold filter. It's good and cheap. Usually on sale for ~$7.
  • Minimum every spring and every 5,000 miles during the season with semi synthetic. Oil is cheap. Engines are not.
  • Send a sample to blackstone labs at 5 k and then you will know what your engine is doing based on your use.
  • Motor oil does not break down sitting in storage.

Oil change recommendations based on time assume that the vehicle is being used regularly (almost daily) but only for short trips. This type of service is harder on lubricants than continuous non-stop use, which drives the mileage recommendations.

The. way you are using yours, I would do an oil change before putting it into storage for the winter.
