How to check a thermistor in my Norcold

I was watching YouTube to see about checking the thermistor in my Norcold 1210 fridge. Service techs are saying you can disconnect the thermistor and it will run "wide open" all the time then see if it if starts cooling better.

Are they talking about unclipping/removing the thermistor from the fins or unplugging it from the electrical supply? I know I can also ohm out the thermistor but I wanted to check by disconnecting it first.

  • I found it. It's a 90 mile trip for me but it will be worth the travel time.
  • I pulled the thermistor and checked it's resistance. It shows an (OP)/open so it is bad.

Now to see if I can find one on a Sunday as I'm leaving tomorrow night. I don't know if the guy I talked to at the Camping World knows what he's talking about or not when he told me the nearest one was in Florida. I'm going to check a couple of other stores tomorrow. I would think a thermistor would be a stock item. We'll see I guess.

By disconnecting it, my temperature has dropped 10 degrees since this afternoon. It's 39 in there now and still dropping but the outside temperature has dropped to about 92 degrees. I'll keep a close eye on it to make sure things don't start freezing. I'm hoping it'll get to 38 and stop. The freezer is and has been -10 F all day.
  • We had a code 13 flashing on our Norcold. We contacted the Norcold Guy and ordered another thermister. Simple to remove and snap in a new one. Works fine now
  • I was going to just buy another but the nearest thermister, at least from Camping World, is in Florida which is a 12-hour drive for me.

I'll just ohm it out and see what I get. If it's bad, I'll just order one from Amazon.
  • Unplug at the light, but it won't run wide open. It will give an error, and go to the back up, which is timed cycles.

Disconnect the thermistor from the fins OR disconnect the thermistor from the electrical supply at the light?

    electrical
BUT like said if the things bad it will freeze your food from my experience for a lousy 20$ if u think yours is bad simply don't waste your time and change it
