How would I know?

If we're getting the right price. My wife and I are planning to sell our fifth wheel and purchase a Class A coach. Due to some health issues that my wife has, much as we like our Open Range, the fifth wheel is no longer meeting our needs.

Two questions:

First, we would like to sell our unit privately rather than trading in. Have any of you used RV REGISTRY to help sell or purchase an RV? If so, what are your thoughts - positive or negative comments appreciated.

Second, with regard to the purchase of a Class A, do any of you have any idea what percentage off the MSRP one should expect to pay to make it a good and fair deal for both the buyer and seller?
  • Sold our motorhome in 2 weeks thru RVtrader. Had it listed on rvt and craigslist. Rvtrader gor the most hits.
  • Look at the Blue book value and also compare it to similar RV's that are selling. Also keep in mind, you PROBABLY will be haggled a bit. Have a bottom line.
  • When we bought our class A 2 years ago, we figured out the exact make and model we wanted with the options we had to have. We found six dealers selling exactly what we wanted. We sent them emails requesting their best 'out the door' price (minus tax and tags). We considered all the prices and chose the second lowest one and put down a deposit over the phone.

The prices we received varied from $98K to $120K on an MSRP of $146K. We chose the second lowest ($99K) based on customer reviews of their service and repairs.

We then negotiated the price on our trade in. We took a lower $$ amount than our trade in's value but we negotiated two additional batteries installed in the new class A, two fantastic fan vent covers installed, and the movement of our entire solar power system from the old trailer to the new class A. In the end, we got almost low retail for our trade in when including the additional parts and labor.

We drove 1000 miles to do the sale. It was worth it, as our closest dealer was the one who wanted $120K. Best of luck purchasing your new RV.
  • rvt is free. Craigslist. If you price it right and post alot of pics, it will sell quickly. Rv trader.. If you have a koa card, you can post a free, premium listing for free.

We have been looking for a DP, and 99 percent of all who are selling ( including dealers ) post on those big three.

Tip.. Posting on CL, to avoid spam, use a written number when you put your phone number. Example 532 874 910 one.
    Good luck on your sale
  • Craigslist is good because it's free and you can post 24 pictures. I did multiple Craigslist ads in my surrounding states. I also did an ad on rvtrader.com. That was around $75 and I had a lot of inquiries. It's really important to take nice clear, bright pictures. Stage your RV the way you would if you were selling a home. Get rid of all the clutter! I sold my Class A through Craigslist this spring. Now the wait for the new order!
  • I always try craigslist first (for selling) because it is free.

Google your particular fifth wheel and see if you can find it for sale anywhere else to check asking prices.
  • Regarding RV Registry: Google reviews rv registry and read the results. I think you will find your answer there. I would not give them any money.

Good luck on selling your unit.
