HWH Jacks

My HWH one front and one rear opposite sides will not come back up on there own. Any info on what could be the cause. I check the fluid with the jack up and it show right on the first line. Should it show full on the second line up?
  • Interesting recommendations. I had some jack return problems and my service manager said to use WD-40. I did and have not had problems since. Last time I visited the HWH booth I asked what product to use for that problem and all of the HWH reps in the booth agreed that WD-40 was the company answer. They all also said not to use a silicone spray. I find the ATF answer interesting since you can not get it in a spray container, though you can put it in a spray bottle.
  • This seems to be a very common issue with many owners. I can't help but think it has to do with lack of lubrication of shaft or the shinny cylinder.

My coach is 20 years old and I haven't had any problems. The HWH jack system works very well. They were slow to retract when I bought the rig over 10 years ago, but retraction speeded up significantly when I sprayed the jacks with silicone. (Don't use WD 40.) I'm thinking the previous owner didn't use them. I've never replaced the springs. I've never had a leak or problem. I did replace the fluid (ATF MD 3)as a preventive measure, but the old fluid looked clean.

As a alternative method, you could wipe the cylinders with MD-3 as J-Rooster suggested. It should work just as well if not better than silicone spray.
  • Sometimes if you get gunk on the cylinders they won't retract you will have to get a clean rag and clean them (do not use any silicone or oil spray to clean them my HWH manual says that it is a no no)! I you have a week return spring that could be a cause. I had the same problem last year and had to replace one jack because it was slightly bent (I still don't know how that happened because my coach is never moved until there retracted) and I can't remember if I could have hit something on the road (recap from a semi or road debris? Good Luck, Rooster
