Icemaker -- other uses?

Thanks! That is something I never would have thought of. If our final choice includes one with an icemaker, I will try to remember to check this carefully.

If your coach has the U Line ice maker, it is a freezer unit and does not drain away the water or recycle it.

We also boondock with ours,works fine on the inverter.

A good filter system takes care of the taste odor and minerals in CG water.

We use ours with the inverter and always have ice.

Yes, another reason why it is of little or no value to me, although I would expect the motorhome I buy to have an inverter. A majority of our camping is boondocking.

OP here. No -- I'm talking about the stand-alone ice maker.

I would rather have the extra cabinet space. Just wondering if it could be used as a small separate freezer or something else.

An icemaker, whether built in to the fridge or stand alone is of no value to us. We prefer to buy ice, even at home.

We had the U-Line stand-alone ice maker in our toyhauler. When I got rid of the TH I kept the icemaker - It's the bomb! We spend several weekends a year at the Colorado River where ice is (ironically) a hot commodity. We generally keep drinks like beer, sodas and bottled water in a separate cooler so the icemaker is worth its weight in gold.

We’re saving our pennies for a big class A. You can bet if the rig doesn't come with an icemaker I’ll install one.

Fill the water tank with your favorite "Over ice" spirits and if it can freeze them your drink won't get watered down as the ice melts.

Seriously.. I'd pass on it, in fact, after doing a few battles with the U-line ice maker that goes in the freezer.. I transferred it to basement and installed a pair of ice cube trays. I have like six of those lying about. Use 2.

We also have a U Line separate Ice maker in Our Rig. I agree that the various Campground water sources are frequently "Off"!

There is nothing particularly special about the Mechanical parts used in this under counter device. The Ice cubes are formed in a Universal type of machine that can be found in most refrigerators that have ice makers built in, and purchased as an add on for many others. I have a couple of them on a shelf in My Garage that I removed from some Old Fridges that had outlived their usefulness.

Anyway It is a simple matter to Zip tie Up the Refill sensor Arm so that it remains shut off . Then just use the Box as a small Deep Freeze.

The Water Supply Hose should have a Shut Off Valve which needs to be closed to prevent any accidental production of unwanted Ice Cubes!

You must remember that this unit only works on 110 so you can't use it while dry camping unless You have an inverter!

I don't think so. The OP said "separate ice maker". And most of the responses are referring to the possibility of using the ice maker as added cold storage.
