Installed Roadmaster Reflex RSSC, have question??

When installing, it said to mount bracket to drag link and twist drag link clockwise. Is that up or down? When I twist it up, it almost touches the strap holding up the lower radiator hose. Is there much up and down movement in the drag link with normal driving?

Instructions say CounterClockwise and you wrote Clockwise. Either depends on which side of the coach you're on when you twist the drag link. The twist in which the assembly can't rub on something makes the most sense, but call Roadmaster and speak to a tech. John Henderson (Henderson's Line Up in Grants Pass OR) would probably also know.
  • I watched the You Tube video on the installation and saw nothing about the drag link. They just tightened the bolt on the RSSC to the bracket and attached the bracket to the arm. Torqued and job done..

Then mount it up and then twist the drag link both ways. See if there's interference and adjust if needed. Also steer lock-to-lock and see if there's interference.
E450 does not have a Passenger side Idler Arm. Because of this, the Driver side, attached to the steering box Pitman Arm, does not rise and fall with suspension movement. The Passenger side end will rise and fall in unison with that front wheel.
The instructions for the functionally similar Safe-T-Plus don't include anything about the drag link, and mounts the same way. S-T-P uses two opposing coil springs to push steering toward center. Reflex uses one, so it's in Push/Pull (Compress/Stretch) modes to find center. Which is why instructions stress having the steering wheel locked on center during installation. There's a YouTube about adjusting an S-T-P so it holds center, not pushing it to right or left.
  • No first hand experience, but do know an engineer at Roadmaster.

    Here is his reply:

We have that note in there for the later model year mainly because they have very little clearance to the radiator hose and want to make sure it doesn't rotate around and rub the hose after installation.

It should probably be reworded to say rotate the drag link both direction to make sure it clears the radiator hose no matter what position it is in.
  • Thanks Wolfe10, that makes sense. They need a good technical writer to rewrite their instructions.

Now, please let us know how the REFLEX RSSC works for you! It's the same idea as the S-T-P that Henderson's installs, and John told me adding S-T-P was like setting the Caster to +5. If so, that's good!
