Inverter issues

I have posted this in the tech forum already, but was hoping to get more info. I have a 2007 Coachmen Cross Country and am having inverter issues. I have already narrowed it down after a lot of trial and error down to an internal fault. My question is this, Is there a fix for this or is it replacement time? and also I am getting a boiling water sound from my batteries when I am hooked to shore power, what would be causing this? The batteries test good, never had a problem until today. Was getting the coach ready to head out tomorrow to Florida and ran into all of this at once. any suggestions ?????

  • Obviously the inverter/charger is over charging your batteries. Something is not set up right with the inverter or something has failed in the inverter controller board. Make sure that the inverter/charger is not putting out too much voltage and current and see if you can turn the charger off to go through the reset procedure.
Here is the link to the owners manual to explain the set up procedure. Magnum ME

Agree you can do a lot of diagnostics on a Magnum inverter using the 'tech' button on the remote. If your batteries are boiling, the 3 stage charger may be failing and overcharging the batteries.

You can call the folks at Magnum. They are very helpful. One of the most helpful to me during a recent issue with my MS2812 was Glen Darby at Magnum Energy. You can send him an email from their website and he will respond quickly.

I went down this morning and tried one final reset on the inverter. Just the short time that I was plugged in the batteries were already starting to boil. was supposed to head out to florida this afternoon, guess that will be put on hold.....lol.

  • Also fill the batteries all the way up with water. Use distilled water. Biggest cause of failing batteries are over heating due to lack of water. the cells weld together in the batteries.
  • That inverter should have a controller inside the rv. Get your manual out and make sure all your setting are right. You have to set that up for your kind of batteries and everything. You also want 50% charge. Has you checked all this?
  • It is a magnum ME inverter. The batteries had lost some water. noticed that before I started the process.
  • on some invereters they do have fuses inside them. What kind of inverter is it? The batteries, do you have plenty of water in them?
