Invisi Brake & break away switch - do you use it ??

Hi All

We just had a base plate installed on our 2013 Honda Fit along with our Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar etc & are really wondering just how many of you Class A people are using this "break away switch" ??
It seems to me to really not be necessary with the way the Blue Ox tow bar is hooked to the RV as well as to the toad.
We'd appreciate your comments & opinions !!
Thanks & happy travels !!

  • As the others above, we also use the break-away option. I saw a pick-up truck pulling an older Bronco going at least or above the posted interstate speed. I happened to glace over as he was passing me as I have a habit of looking at toad connections.

To my surprise, he had a V-shaped connection to the bumper of the Bronco and just attached to the tow ball of the pick-up truck. There were no chains or anything else.

A few miles up, I see a Bronco facing me all banged up. It it had apparently come loose and rolled over and came to a stop on the right side of the interstate. Thank goodness it didn't cross lanes and hit someone head-on. What a crazy nut for that guy to tow that way.

    MM.
  • Definately use the breakaway feature. Can't imagine any reason not to, it takes about 10 seconds to connect the cable and costs nothing extra. I even pull the trigger to test it's operation now and then, and I'm not nearly as anal/ocd as some of the people I know quite well.
  • We also have the Invisabrake installed on our Honda and yes we do use the brake-away switch. What would happen if the car came loose? Missile comes to mind.
  • Yes, have Invisibrake and DO use the breakaway lanyard/feature. Why would you NOT use it. Chances of needing are indeed low. But in the event of a breakaway, it materially reduces how far that 2500 pound out of control missile will travel.
