Invsi brake system

I am going to show my ignorance but need some help in understanding the Invisibrake system. I keep telling my wife it is just coincidence but just wanted to ask if there could be any correlation between the ABS sensors on my tow vehicle and motorhome going out a couple of months after the install. I had the Invisibrake system installed in November. I have towed my 2011 Jeep Wrangler behind my 2012 Itasca Suncruiser a couple of times since then. Probably a total of 2,000 miles. Everything works great. The last two weeks however my ABS sensor lit up on my jeep (not while being towed). After taking it in to the shop they said a rear sensor went out. One week later the ABS sensor on my motorhome came on(again not while towing) - luckily no major damage - seals went out no damage to rotor or pads. I am mechanically challenged but it seems odd that both my ABS lights on the Jeep and motorhome went out shortly after installing the system. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  • We have had the Invisibrake on the last two toads-- probably 50,000 miles total.

Never had an ABS light on the toad come on.

And, can not see any tie-in with the coach's ABS system, since the Invisibrake works off the coach's brake light signal.
  • Coincidence. Electrically the brake is a dumb component that is an input device and not an output device. However, if using diodes in the installation and they get wet it can feedback enough voltage to keep the brakes activated until they time out. Not a good thing. I have mine unplugged at this time due to that problem. Maybe I will redesign mine and use relays for isolation. Hmmm. If I had a schematic of the device I suspect it would be easy to fix but alas, probably will never see one.
  • YC 1,

Do you have a dash light to let you know the Invisibrake is activated? Have you found the condition you mention-- the brake being activated erroneously (you would know, as the dash light would be on)?

That has never happened on ours.

And the brake has a failsafe-- it will turn off after a reasonably short time, even if the brake pedal is still on. Long enough to stop from any highway speed, but not long enough to damage toad brakes. Observe this every time we come to a stop light.
  • Wolfe, I do have the dash light. I have not had them go on by themselves while connected to the RV but I did have them go off once in the driveway after a real downpour. I unplugged them at that time.

I am aware of the failsafe and it does work. After about 15 seconds they release, however one tap of the brakes and the cycle will start again.

I think the company may have resolved the problem in later units but not sure. I am tired of messing with ill mannered toad brakes and will change to the simple Ready Brute in the future.

I believe the issue is a tiny bit of leakage voltage across the diodes feeding back and fooling the invisibrake into thinking it is seeing a brake input. Most issues I have heard of are during a lot of rain and water contributing to the issue.

With that said I may try pulling the two brake light fuses in the Toad to try and remedy the issue. I have not pressed the brakes and had someone tell me if the brakes lights come on under the setup conditions of the toad. That is, in neutral, ignition button in accessory position. It is a keyless ignition so the brakes may indeed be hot. Heck, maybe I will venture out tonight to check.
