It's a shame

We should have the innermost need to reach out to others with questions and try to help. We realiZe that we may need help to possibly deal with a specific issue OURSELVES. If we do not receive a Thank You it is hoped that the reader has benefitted from our free advice. On RV.Net it is clear that people try to help each other, knowing that all of us may have a question which needs explaining. RV.net is one of the most CIVIL and mutually helpful sites for RV Users, in our cases, B Vans. My family motto: I love as I discover...

Now it's my turn again. Thanks for all your responses and I now have a much more in-depth understanding of how things are supposed to work and will participate accordingly.

Every forum has its own rules, written and unwritten. It seems here the unwritten rule is "no thanks is needed". I rarely see OPs pop in and thank others except for the "regulars". I don't think that's right, but that's the way it is. Other forums I'm on, nearly every single thread with a question has a thanks at the end. Even from people who didn't ask the OP question.

Answering "newbie" questions is the same thing. Here, I try to answer them when I can. And most of the "regulars" seem to do so also. But on one auto forum I'm on, "newbies" get berated pretty quickly if they didn't try search first. So if I can't find an answer I think might be there, I preface my question with "tired a search but couldn't find...".

Getting back to the O.P. About the lack of response or follow up. I also have been frustrated by the OP not following up. I don 't really care about being thanked but it 's kind of like reading a book and finding out the last pages are missing. I will tell you that I have saved a lot of money and time here with the knowledge that can be found here given by people like yourselves. I once had a guy who asked for some advice on Craigslist. It was complicated and gave him my cell number. I gave him the advice but instead of a thank you he said "wow! You must have a lot of free time " . I told him I am a musician and sometime I do have a lot of free time and he was welcome. He never did say thank you but I won 't change. If I haven 't said it enough before,thanks guys and gals.

I agree. I started a post with this same subject a few months ago and it went to the dark side and the post was deleted by the mods within an hour. What the poster that says "do a search" does not understand is this, maybe the person who has the perfect answer to the question did not see or contribute to the other post. Also maybe a new member with a lot of knowledge has the answer. If all we did was search this forum we could rename this site RVipedia or WikiRV and just have a search function only. I have also asked a question only to be told how dumb I was to want to make a mod like that.

There are times when a search may bring up some results, but other times, it is good to read opinions by other people about a topic. Even if they are just opinions, they came from somewhere.

The one nice thing about RV.net compared to a lot of other places is that the shilling (someone posting for a company touting their products) is fairly rare. Other places, someone posts something bellyaching about a product, and you get a bunch of accounts (whom only post when a product or company is mentioned) replying with various levels of flaming because the account owner is likely paid to defend/advertise said company/product.

I wish this forum had a "like" or "thanks" button because there are some people who are quite outstanding and even if I disagree with them, they have very intelligent writing.

Personally, I read many of the posts and replies and even though the topic may not apply to my B and or I have not asked a / the question, I tend, in many instances, to remember the answers. Believe me, I have learned a lot on these forums.

In any event, I've been able to 1) refer friends to rv dot net; and, 2) provide answers for a myriad of RVer friend's questions. It's a way of paying it forward.

So, even though, the original query seems to go unacknowledged, trust me when I say the replies are worth the time, and

... thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

I have to agree. There are some of us that may not have seen that topic covered or even thought of doing a search for information on a subject. I thought that The whole idea of this forum is to share information, get help for problems and to help others if we can.

If that were the stock answers there would be no new information or any reason for this forum. There would be no discourse between the seasoned user and the newbies. That is what keeps this Forum alive.

It seems that I see more and more posts start with " I know that this has been covered but" or " I have done a search" I just want to get some first hand knowledge or newer information. Most responders jump right in and help

The posters whose pat answers are; "Do a search" or "that topic has already been covered here before" have nothing to add to the discussion.


That is why I like another feature of this Forum, THE BLOCK this member Icon. If I see a trend from these people, I use it. :)
