I haven't had tire trouble in 7 years of driving the MH, touch wood. I did practise changing a front wheel at home, which was enlightening re length of breaker bar needed and the bottle hydraulic Jack. On the front, the Ford manual says to put the jack under a bit of small diameter rod sticking out. I was frightened doing that with a jack with very small, very flat top. I tried to buy a new jack with more appropriate business end but couldn't find one. I cut off the top of a safety jack stand and welded it on the top of the jack. Looks better and it worked on the front. I don't know if my welding is good enough for the weight on the back, where I am supposed to lift the round axel - even more scary on the flat top of the standard bottle jack.
Regarding the trick of driving the inside wheel up on a block and then taking off the outer wheel. The same lug nuts hold both wheels on. Is it really safe to have a wheel with no lug nuts holding up one side of a motorhome while working on it?
I will really appreciate all tips and answers from you experienced folks. Pictures of a jack in place would be a real asset to have on the forum.
We do find ourselves isolated quite a bit. Our favourite lake is 20 miles from cell service. On our trip to the Bennet dam in northern BC this summer we drove out to see the "steam vents" on the bank of the Peace River. This was only a few km from civilization but there was a 2 km stretch with no room to turn around or pass.
