King Dome

we just play DVDs.

Anyone can watch TV while driving. Just bring the DVR into the RV and watch the recorded programming while moving and record more stuff while you are parked. This is especially handy with kids on board as they can watch things you know they like.

I saw a link on another forum where Grand-daughter loved to watch TV down the road so Grandpa figured out a way to keep the King Dome and install the Travler as well. Thought about it myself, using just a 211 receiver separate from the hopper just for watching while traveling, but in the end our factory King Dome was only a stationary unit (Model 9704)

The Traveler is great but if this Dome is "in Motion" and the OP wants that function, why not try to salvage it! The Datron Dish on top of my MH has been their since the late 90's and it still works fine for Direct standard def TV. I bought my King Dome for a fraction of the cost of a new in motion at an RV show....the wife loves watching TV while traveling down the road.

Not everyone wants or needs HD programming so my advice is to do what you can to test it. Lots of testing info on line once you get the Model number.

It depends on which model as others have said. Our KingDome stopped working with Dish all together and very seldom would lock on to a DirecTV satellite. We threw it in the dumpster and replaced it with a Winegard Trav'ler. Absolutely love it. Chuck

First, get up on the roof and look on the side of the dome, just underneath the cover flange. There is a label that will tell you the model and serial number of your dome. You can then google that model number for the manual. Or you can post it on here and get tons of help. It will only provide you with standard def TV no HD. I've used KingDomes for over 10 years with no issues....Dennis

If you are trying to save "in-motion" tracking (not sure what dome you have), it might be worth testing it if you can borrow somebodies receiver, but otherwise I'd kick it off the roof as someone said. There are far better antennas out there, (Travler) and I see Winegard has a new automatic portable for ~$300 (Playmaker)

Dish advertised (last time I checked, a few years ago) 19.95. introducty price but they wanted over 60/month from me by the time we got set up (I went with the month by moth plan.. Just one month)

Oh by the way "UP-Selling" is a form of the illegal practice called Bait and Switch.

DIREC, last time I had them, they wanted an additional $7.00, as I recall, a month to provide "local" Channels, which are supposed to be supplied per FCC rules with the basic passage.

Cable Systems for the most part are no better.
(One system that did NOT try to Upsell me was Darien GA Telephone).
(The only one).

So I'm all for "Cutting the cable" be it satellit or genuine.

I'm watching OTA as I type, Batwing, Sensar Pro, Switch box is good, Stations are over 50 miles distant.

I'm fairly handy electronically and was able to fix my King dome when they would not under warranty. After the third time of fixing the sorry rotating coax connection and then that I needed a new control board $$$ I gave up and threw it off the roof.
OP, I doubt a 12 year old King dome will work or is it worth fixing.
