King Dome dish.

I was given a King Dome model 9762-30 standard def. satellite system from someone that upgraded to HD. Can I get some pros and cons from the forum before I decide to replace my old outdated Daytron?
Thanks Marty

I had one and what a POS... traded it in on a portable dish. Difficult to set up, did not work well in motion and the fatal flaw is the rotating coax connection in the center of the dish. It stopped working before the warranty ran out BUT KingDome would not send me a new one. CW finally did pay for it ($100+) and I replaced it.
A year later it would lock on the wrong SAT and stop looking. KDome wanted $400 for a new controller (told them it would be a cold day when I put $400 into their POS) BUT by changing regions I could get it to start searching and then it might find the right one. If not, then change regions again...... Or go up on the roof, take the dome off and manually find the SAT which was usually faster.
Last summer in the middle of a trip the rotating coax connector crapped out again so I drilled a hole in the center of the dome bypassing connector but once a week I'd have to go on the roof and untwist the coax. At the FMCA rally in OR last summer I got them to give me $200 trade in. Never so happy to get rid of something. GOOD LUCK, YOU'LL NEED IT. Did I mention it was a piece of SxxT!
  • Ivylog, why don't you tell me how you really feel? LOL!! Thank you, that is what I really wanted to know. Real experience. Thanks

Never thought I'd have another KDome product. At the FMCA rally I asked their rep to take the dome off of their dish. He asked why... wanted to see if they were still using the rotating coax connector. He said NO and admitted it had been a problem area. With the $200 credit I paid $200 for the Flex Portable Dish which I have only used a few times when trees were a problem.
  • I know where you can get a KVH in motion for DirecTV but for standard definition only. It might be cheap.

  • Well Geez....I just put a used King Dome in motion in conjunction with my Datron Dish(which still works flawlessly)...Have used it while on the road the last several weeks and my wife loves it so far. Granted, if I paid 800-900.00 dollars for one and it didn't live up to expectations, I'd be saying so also but alas mine was a bargain(not sure of the model, I'd have to look.)
    Happy so far!
  • I'm still using mine and it works pretty well. I can't justify the expense of going with something else as the KD does what it's supposed to do...push a button, watch TV...how difficult is that...?:h////Dennis

I may not have been clear in that I had the exact same model and it was a POS.
  • Thanks all for the replies. I know all models of a company can't or shouldn't all be bad so that's why I ask of that model number. Thanks again.
  • 2 KDs, 2 different RV, 15yrs, both perfect.
Like was said, push button, watch tv.
