Kwikee Steps

What do I need to look for to get my Kwikee Steps to work properly? When the engine is running my Kwikee Steps work just fine! When the engine is shut off my Kwikee Steps will not extend (they stay in the retracted position when the coach door is opened). The switch is in the on position but, nothing happens when the door is opened! My coach is a 2004 Winnebago!

The POWER to the ON/OFF switch is dead or not supplying the power to the Step module. When you have the Engine or KEY ON, that supplies the 12 volt power to engage the steps. The WHITE wire on the 4 wire quick connect under the step area harness should have 12 volts when the On/Off switch is engaged. If NOT, odds are the fuse for that wire is blown. The steps have 3 fuses. Fuse 1 is 12 volt Power. Fuse 2 is the 5 amp for that wall switch. Fuse 3 is the Ignition power wire from the Chassis fuse block. Fuse 1 and Fuse 3 obviously work. Fuse 2 is your problem area. Doug
Thanks Doug, I'll take your advice and check everything out that you suggested!

  • Mine was doing this. If I pushed the battery boost switch they would work. Most likely culprit is a bad ground connection. Good luck!
  • Sounds like the relay switch is bad, they are about $10 are less, the fun part will be trying to find the right one...

Recently, I had issues and replaced ALL my relays just to be safe and it was the quickest way. I had a total of 9, at least 9 that I found...
  • The switch that 'shuts off' the automatic retract (for when you are camped and don't want the steps extending and retracting every time the door is opened and closed) is either off, has failed, or has a loose wire.
