Last Year of Workhorse

I'm Looking in to purchasing a used Class A. I can't afford a Diesel though I'd really like to have one. What was the last year of the Class A gm 8.1 v-8 made? Don't want to start a brand war but I'm a GM Fanatic.I was told that GM will someday start making Class A gas chassis again but nobody knows when, Anybody here know?

? There is no brake recall issue if the recall was completed! And if it was not completed it will be done N/C.
I agree, the 8.1/Alison combination is hard to beat. GM ceased engine production in DEC 2011. Thanks.

There have been reports of brake issues here after the recall. If I were to ever buy another WH chassis it would be the W24. The W22 failed me to many times.

I just searched the Open Road Forum (Workhorse brake) and did not find a post substantiating you statement? I have not seen anything on the Workhorse Forum other than reports of "no caliper issues after the recall". I have 15k miles after recall with no issues and no problems before the recall. Also have had no problems with my W20 chassis.
What personal problem do you have with Workhorse? Thanks.

I stand corrected. Posted in hast, no first hand experience with the recall. Thought I remembered posts on owners not being happy with the the final results of the recall.

  • I saw a 2012 at the Tampa Show that was built on the 2011 Chassis with the 8.1L engine.
  • I have a 2007 Winnebago Voyage 35L on a W22 Workhorse chassis with the 8.1 and Allison 6 speed transmission. So far I have found this to be a wonderful combination. Plenty of power for our needs and a smooth shifting transmision.

I can't tell you exactly when the last Workhorse was made, but it was a sad day when the production ended. Parts are still readily available for the engine and transmission. I've not had a need to look for any other chassis parts, but believe they will not be too hard to find.

In what is strictly my personal opinion, the Workhorse was one of the best gas motorhome chassis on the market.
