Leaking Kitchen Faucet

We have a 2004 PW Excel and the kitchen faucet has begun leaking. DH who has replaced many kitchen home faucets has been trying to handle the PW problem. He would like to put in a totally new faucet but things seem tightly sealed. Has anyone done this and are there some "secrets" to make things easier?

Thanks in advance.
  • I have a 2005 PW Excel and have removed the faucet several times! You have to remove the shelving back panel and cabinet door to the left of the refrigerator, remove the upper outside vent to the back of the refrigerator, take off the sheet metal air baffle behind it and then you'll see the bottom of the faucet. After removing about 3 square inches of silicone and unscrewing the bottom screw of the faucet, disconnect the two water lines and the faucet should pull up and out.
  • Our single handle kitchen faucet started to leak last year. I took the handle off and disassembled the valve. Put the small seals, etc. in a ziplock bag and went to the local Home Depot. Matched the seals/parts with a kit in their faucet repair section. Installed new seals, no more leak. I do feel lucky that Home Depot had the right repair kit.
  • Forgot to mention that after replacing the guts to the Phoenix faucet which seemed okay for a couple of trips, it started leaking again. Being in the middle of a long trip and short on patience, I took the faucet apart and took the two little coil springs that holds the two little rubber seals and stretched them as much as I could with a wire cutter forced between the coils being careful not to cut into the metal. Might have stretched the springs a 1/16". That seemed to have done the trick.
  • Op has only one hole for the faucet which has a single handle. The faucet is a real bear to remove. I think I would try contacting "Phoenix" who manufactures the faucet and get replacement parts which you can remove from the top. It took me about 1 hour to remove the faucet the SECOND TIME only because I was familiar with it. It's buried behind the cabinet under the sink and above the top of the refrigerator.

This faucet is junk grade and really should be replaced.
  • I was able to replace my old fauscet with a new one from Home Depot.

I went from two handles and 3 holes in the sink to a single hole with one handle. THen I used the extra 2 holes for my dishwasher and the third hole for a soap dispenser, that turns out to be Really handy..
