Kitchen faucet leak

After fixing leaking connection in the water line on the bathroom toilet, just loose fitting, discovered a leak under island kitchen sink. Even though the flange nut under sink was loose it was not the source. traced to the cold water handle where it has a steady drip near connection under the handle. There is a threaded fitting and the pex connection just underneath it. Tried to tighten it gently while hooked up to city water but extremely difficult to reach. We have been camping for last 3 weeks in upstate New York and heading back to Texas Thursday. Would like to fix myself before leaving. Any help would be appreciated. Easier way to reach these fittings? do not see any shut offs for the kitchen sink.

  • The first photo is a view looking up to cold water handle from floor which I believe is leaking from fitting or crimp clamp?
  • Stop by the first big box store you see, buy the faucet that DW likes best and install it. No more problems.

Or if having to go that route where the faucet will need to be removed anyway, try removing the original faucet, check the PEX crimp for signs of leakage and recrimp as necessary. Big Box hardware stores sell the PEX crimping tool.

If it is the threaded part, use try using teflon tape on the threads and see if that seals it up. If it is the faucet leaking and not the connector areas, replace faucet per donn0128.

If you are unable to do the work, then you will have to pay to get it done.

Do you use a pressure regulator on your city water connection?
  • Can you cut the PEX and tighten the fitting using a basin wrench?
Lowes and Home depot both sell shark bite type fittings that will work beautifully on PEX.
  • It is a brand new 2016 Jayco Travel trailer.. Took delivery 6 weeks ago. It is under warranty. Usually I do use a regulator but pressure is low here at campgrounds where we are till tomorrow morning. With regulator water pressure here was Pitiful. Just thought I could fix here but will bring back to dealer in Dallas next week if I Have too.
  • Have a hard time getting a grip on connection let alone a tool up there as the first pic shows.

This is what I would do
Repair the cut lines with 2 sharkbite shut offs
Much better if you do it yourself rather than deal with warrantee and wait times at a dealership
  • Most of the kitchen fausets now have long hoses already attached. The RV fausets are really cheap. My DW picked out a real nice kitchen fauset at Lowes. It has the fancy fauset head that pulls out. No problem installing it. Very nice quality and all parts will be available. Next I will change out bathroom fauset. Trying to repair the RV cheap fauset is a waste of time. If you are going to just attempt a repair take that fitting loose and install a new washer if you can find one. Doubt just tightening will stop the leak.
  • Sounds to me like the threaded "wing" nut fitting that connects the PEX to the actual faucet. They usually have 3 wings on them. They are not NPT fittings so Teflon or thread sealant won't do any good. Most of them are surface mating seals and usually have a rubber gasket.

RV manufacturers routinely fail to tighten them sufficiently. It a simple matter of giving the nut a half turn in the tighten direction. If you can't reach the wing nut with your hand you will need a basin wrench to tighten it.

Here's what the wrench looks like -

In this pic the nut labeled "faucet connector" is the one I'm talking about -
