LED 1157 Replacent Bulbs

My plan was successful. The diode inline with the tail light wire corrected the feedback issue when the turn signals were flashing.

All is good.

Here is my plan. Install a diode on the incoming line for the tail light side of the 1157 receptacle. Cost at Radio Shack: $4.97 (2 ea. diode and terminal block.



I will let you know how it turns out.

Being I live in the snow belt, I like incandescents on the rear of the vehicle as they build up heat and keep the tail lights clear... A LED will not do that..

Connected to the "T" is the ground,

I have played that "ground" game many a time with trailers, etc. The first thing I checked was the ground going to the bulb bases.

This is not a ground problem. This a problem due to the design of the LED bulb.

Both the tail light and turn signal circuitry share the same LEDs. There is a resistor built in to the tail light circuitry to show a dimmer light.

I think a diode on the incoming tail light feed will correct the back feed problem. If not, I will return the LED bulbs and buy new 1157s.

I have replaced 3 1157 incandescent bulbs since October. They may have been originals and would be 15 years old.

The ground is most important,,,,,, IF it is backfeeding then the ground is not making good connection.

agree...I changed the inside lights to LEDs cause I boondock and they use way less power...as far as longevity of chassis lights, I have had to change ONE bulb in three years! Don't see any reason to change those to LED.

My reason was longevity. They were brighter.

I try the led and when I turn the lights on it would kick out my cruise control.So I went back to the regular 1157.

Installing LED bulbs in the old housing that used incandescent bulbs just doesn't work out very well.
They aren't bright enough and the light doesn't show from every angle like the old ones do.
If you can, replace the entire assembly. Otherwise people may not see your lights. Some fixtures even have direct replacements.
