LED 1157 Replacent Bulbs

Has anyone tried to replace their 1157 Tail/Stop bulbs with an 1157 LED Tail/Stop bulb?

I installed 4 LEDs on my 2000 Hurricane. When the turn signal flashes, it back feeds through the tail light and causes ALL the clearance lights, side marker lights and tail lights on the opposite side to blink.

Anyone have a solution to permit using LED replacement bulbs?

  • I had 3 of the 4 incandescent burn out the last two trips I took. I thought the LEDs would be a good thing. I just read that the Pilot brand do not work very well (same problem I am reporting) but others brands will.
  • I have 4 taillights as well. When I put 1157 LED bulbs in all 4 there was not enough resistance to make the flasher work. I could have added a resistor to the circuit, but the quick and dirty fix was putting incandescent bulbs back in 2 of the lights. It actually proved beneficial as the top pair now illuminate a split second faster than the bottom pair, which may be more attention getting for the brake lights. They have worked fine that way for several years.
