You can buy these at: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/vacuum-pump.php. You will probably need longer tubing. It is 1/4" refrigerator tubing which you can get at most hardware store. - hzjcm8Explorer

They sell a pump and tube you stick down the dipstick hole and pump out a small sample. I believe testing your tranny oil can also be used to extend your filter change intervals.
Steve,
You are correct (as usual). To get a transmission sample they'll need a hand operated vacuum pump and tubing to suck the fluid out of the sump through the fill (dipstick) tube.
Also, they'll need an Oil Analysis Kit that includes "Particle Count" and "ISO Cleanliness Code" to extend filter change intervals since this will give you information on the number of particles and teh sizes of particles that are in the system. - hzjcm8Explorer

I have a 3000 series transmission with a 4 inch sump filled with TranSynd. When I have the filters changed this summer I plan on using the fluid analysis. Since the filter change results in the loss of 10 quarts and the transmission holds 29 quarts I am replacing 1/3 of the fluid. Should the oil for the analysis be taken before or after the filters are changed and the new fluid added?
Racerchaser,
Purchase an Advanced Oil Analysis Kit and take a sample first, before you do anything else. Send it in right away for analysis and wait for the results. Then, if the fluid shows to be good, you can catch it in a "clean" bucket (and I do mean very clean) and put it right back in again after you change the filters. There's no need to top it off and throw out good fluid. Be sure to check the level at operating temperature after you've finished installing the new filters and you'll be good to go.
How's that for a "good" answer !!!! - stardaloExplorerThey sell a pump and tube you stick down the dipstick hole and pump out a small sample. I believe testing your tranny oil can also be used to extend your filter change intervals.
- Gadget_Guy1ExplorerWhat is the best way to get a sample of oil for analysis?

Use of SAE 15W40 motor oil in Allison HT746
« on: Today at 03:49:28 PM »
I just got some quotes on 34 quarts of Dexron III ATF for a transmission fluid change. I didn't like what I heard. I looked up what Allsion specs and it appears if I read it correctly that I can use SAE 15W40 motor oil instead of ATF at 1/4 of the cost. Has anyone done this successfully? Do you have any comments?

The guy is coming tomorrow to do the oil change so a quick answer would be appreciated.
