Lifetime updates for Garmin GPS

The updates are over rated. The roads don't change that much.

Garmin is mostly correcting their mistakes.

They are the same "base" unit with differing "setup". The Dezl is aimed for commercial trucking and has "things" loaded that are aimed for that market. While the RV has campgrounds, etc built in

According to the fine print copied from their card it says:
Program entitles you to receive up to four map updates per year during the useful life of one compatible Garmin product OR as long as Garmin receives map updates from it's third party supplier, whichever is SHORTER.

I guess in this case, the current map updates from the third party supplier are just not compatible to my unit.

You would have to read the fine print, but if they claimed Lifetime updates and now are not providing that it's a good consumer fraud case. But I'd be willing to be in the fine print someplace they define Lifetime with some kind of limits.

There is enough memory in the 7200 and as I mentioned, it also has a slot for an SD memory card to expand the memory. The Garmin support said that the new software is just incompatible with the hardware of the StreetPilot device.

I think maybe MORE than 15 years.....because I have two Nuvi models, with a combined age of about 15 and the Garmin Express software still updates both just fine....except for the memory work-around on one.

I can't think of a single company that supports it's old stuff forever.

Mine was purchased 6 years ago along with the Lifetime nuMaps card.
If you go to Garmin Express with a StreetPilot, it will tell you that it is not supported and to download the older Garmin Lifetime Maps Updater. Download it and it tells you that there are no new maps available, which is why I contacted Garmin directly.
The Nuvi and StreetPilot lines overlapped in sales.

As I said, Oh well. :B
This post was just to let others know that Garmin decides when to stop updating their devices and if you happen to purchase one towards the end of when decide to stop support, your Lifetime updates may not last very long.
Perhaps they should make GPS units that stop working sooner. :B

An add-on memory card should solve that problem. It did with mine but the card now has to be cleared for each new update.
